Dr. Michael Walsh has over 30 years’ experience in the steel and special metals industry.

He was most recently Director at Hatch Associates (formerly known as Hatch Beddows) for 15 years where he worked globally in the steel sector focused on techno-economic strategy, technology selection and market assignments throughout the value chain and in all sectors.

He has been based in London and Pittsburgh and although he has worked in every region of the world he has tended to focus on Europe and N. America as well as MENA and CIS. His many engagements have involved raw material procurement right through melting/smelting, casting and rolling to downstream operations and in all consuming sectors such as construction, automotive and power generation etc..

He has also presented at over 50 conferences all around the world. Previous to Hatch he worked five years for British Steel and UK Steel in a range of technical and commercial positions. He has a BS and DPhil in Physics from Oxford University and a diploma in Corporate Finance from London Business School. He is currently an independent consultant and project developer in the steel and special metals sectors
